NFL Sunday is Our National Religion

Football is America's favorite game; it's passed baseball by miles and no other sport even comes close. America's year round love fest with football is admirable and obsessive at the same time. We love the NFL, we feel connected to our teams on a level like no other sport. Yes there are certain fan bases in other sports that have the same passion, but is there anything as surreal as an NFL Sunday. Every place you go you see jerseys upon jerseys of people representing their team. Groups of people congregate to each others' houses every Sunday to watch the games more then people attend church these days. This is our holy day and our new way to worship. We pray for our team to do great and our players to not get hurt. We have faith, we trust, and we hope that the outcome is what we want. We believe in miracles. We've seen them happen many times and always believe that somehow, someway everything will work out perfectly.

Now most people may wonder how a sport could ever be a religion, but isn't a religion about making us believe in a higher power. That someone, some spirit, or something is mightier then we are and allows us to see feats that we've never seen before. You don't have to go to church be faithful or believe in God. You have to find it in everyday life and see it in other ways then just learning the teachings of the Bible or what a priest proclaims. I don't attend church often. I'm a Christer and I'm not even fond of that. I do however never miss a NFL Sunday. Always have my Sunday best on (my Steelers jersey) and go and congregate with the masses each Sunday to watch my team and hope that someway my team will win. Sometimes people will chant together for their team and other times you may be depressed when your team loses, but there's always another week or another season that you will once again believe in. Even if you don't go to church to worship God you may actually be doing it every Sunday in your own way. All it takes is that one miracle play and for that moment you know there's a higher power out there.
