I hate, I hate, I hate. Those two words come out of sports fans' mouths on a daily basis. It's usually about something dumb like a play call, what a jersey looks like, or a player's face. We'll get a little more hateful at times and say we hate a particular athlete, coach, or team and give our reasonings for doing so. Worst of all is when we say we hate a particular sport. Hate is a strong word, we should have some reasoning for the hate if we are going to use it, but we usually don't. I've heard people say on numerous occasions that they hate some sport. I hate hockey, I hate NASCAR, I hate baseball, so on and so on. I've learned that the real reason people hate is that they don't know. They don't know the rules of the sport, the history of the sport, the intricacies of the sport, the athletes in the sport, and they don't understand the intangibles that make each individual sport great in their own way. The problem is that people try to hate sports more than they try to love them.

I'm a culprit of hating on some sports as well. I would say that I'm a pretty knowledgeable sports fan that will watch almost any sport. I do though on some occasions use the hate word when speaking of NASCAR. Have I ever sat down and watched a whole NASCAR race? No. Do I try and find out what others love about it? No. Do I give it a fair chance? Never. I just think I'll hate it so that's my reasoning for saying so. I think most people do this with a lot of sports. People always have reasons why they hate sports, but typically the reasons are the same for everyone who says they hate the sport. Baseball haters say the game is too long. Do you really think if the game was shorter you would watch it? We are a society that is pessimistic. If something bad happens it's news; if something good happens it's not noteworthy. We look for the bad instead of looking for the good. Now I'm not trying to tell everyone that they will love every single sport if they give it a chance. I'm just trying to say that we should know what we are hating before start using the word. So I many never like NASCAR. I may still think the concept is pointless to me with cars driving around in circles and that it seems as there is no excitement within the sport. Until I fully invest my time in realizing why others love it then I probably shouldn't say I hate it though.
