Yesterday in my college football column I discussed how too many people see losses or wins at the beginning of the season against ranked teams and already start putting teams in the national championship. The same goes for NFL games except that two losses or two wins at this point doesn't mean anything. The NFL seems pretty even this year. Almost all the teams look like they can be in contention each week except for the Rams, Lions, and Browns to no ones surprise. The problem is that people want to write off team's before the game is even played. Everyone is on the New Orleans Saints ship after two decisive victories, but have they really played a dominating defense yet? Drew Brees looks great and the team is playing well, but I'd watch out for the Buffalo Bills matchup today. Buffalo is a tough team and even tougher at home. I'm not saying Buffalo will win, but I don't think it will be a shootout or a decisive victory. The point is that we shouldn't anoint anyone a playoff team until at least midway through the season. The Steelers lost a close game to the Bears and now everyone thinks the Bengals are going to beat them. This is the same Bengals team who couldn't do anything against the Broncos. Teams can be playing well, but let's not get too extreme in our opinions of what's going to happen for the rest of the season. We've only had the NFL for two weeks! There's still a lot of weeks left until we have to worry about who will be in the playoffs and who's staying at home. So congratulations to the Saints, 49ers, Jets, Falcons, and Broncos, but let's not get too carried away.
